Another successful Sporting Festival Weekend!
24 Sep 2019The Sporting Festival Weekend at Barney has continued to grow in popularity and 2019’s series of competitions marked another successful event in our wide-ranging calendar.
We welcomed hundreds of young athletes from across the country, with competitors making new friends and memories for life over the course of the weekend.
U10 girls vied for honours and the Seddon Cup, named after one of our former teachers, while the U12s battled it out for the Ewart Cup, presented to the school by a former senior school headmaster.
U10 rugby teams participated in the Clegg Festival, named after OB and professional rugby player Rory Clegg, while U12s competed in the Tait 10s, named after OBs Mathew and Alex Tait, who have also enjoyed successful professional sporting careers in the game.
Headmaster Mr Jackson said: “Events like these are the reason we play sport. We win together, we lose together, we collaborate, we communicate. We continue to play when the going gets tough and we are gracious with our opponents when we win and lose. Through it all we make friendships and memories that will last forever.”
A huge thank you to everyone who supported the event and made it so successful, with special mentions to those who worked tirelessly on the sidelines – including teaching and support staff, volunteers and officials.
