Teesdale Aviation Day Parade
27 Sep 2024Teesdale Aviation Day, established in 1995, was created as a special day of remembrance for the aviators who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their country. The Remembrance Gardens in Barnard Castle are home to three memorial stones, standing as a lasting tribute to the pilots who were lost.
Chris Galley visited the School to speak with the RAF section about the significance of the parade, where six cadets were invited to research and present accounts of five different air accidents in the region between 1944 and 1954. Lance Corporals Marshall Gibson and William Watson, along with Cadets Hannah Lynn, Ethan Raeburn, Hugo Davis, and Alex Tweddle, delivered these stories and accompanying poems at the parade, speaking with eloquence and composure.
Following the formal service, several guests laid wreaths at the memorial stones. Among them were Lt Col Connor and Mr Cresswell, who placed wreaths on the main stone on behalf of the CCF and the School.
