Monty Python’s Spamalot: Senior School Musical 

Many congratulations to the entire cast, musicians, tech crew and everyone involved in our hilariously brilliant Lent Term production of Spamalot!

Barnardians slipped into an idiosyncratic range of characters, from Finnish fisch schlappers and aquatic divas to heroic knights and foul-mouthed Frenchmen, in an Arthurian tale of musical mayhem.

The four-night run of Spamalot was a musical rendition of the movie Monty Python and the Holy Grail, adapted for the stage by Eric Idle and John du Prez. Students spent two months rehearsing the musical, which played to packed audiences of friends and family.

Mr Edwards, Director of Drama, said: “The biggest challenge of the show has been encouraging the cast to embrace the absolute idiocy of the piece.

“Teenagers, by their very nature, are self-conscious, awkward and afraid to make fools of themselves; without throwing themselves into the stupidity of Pythonesque humour the show would have failed.

“It required absolute commitment in order to work and we have spent a huge amount of the rehearsal process embracing this nonsense. Everything about this show requires the cast to be silly, childish and utterly irreverent which, I’m delighted to say, they were in spectacular fashion.”

Musical Director Richard Dawson conducted a live band from the library, with the music streamed into the performance hall. Props and costumes were provided by Darlington Operatic Society with the sound and lighting provided by The CDB Group.
