A Level Results Day 2023

Barnard Castle School is incredibly proud of all students receiving their A Level results today and would like to wish our latest cohort of Old Barnardians every success in the future.

Barney’s outgoing Upper Sixth sat their first-ever formal, external examinations earlier this year, owing to the disruptions brought about by the global COVID-19 pandemic that prevented them from sitting their GCSEs.

Among the School’s outstanding performers were:

• Omar B, who achieved four A*s in Biology, Chemistry, German and Physics, and plans to study Medicine in Germany.
• Imogen R, who also secured four A* grades in Chemistry, French, German and Mathematics, and will study Chemistry at Imperial College London.
• Timm B, who received an impressive total of 232 UCAS points from 4 A Levels and 2 AS qualifications and hopes to study at the University of Zurich, Switzerland.

In addition, Isobel Y, who appeared in all of Barney’s drama and musical productions while in Sixth Form, has secured a place at ArtsEd, in London, one of the top Drama Schools in the UK.

Promising footballer and former Middlesbrough FC star Jessica W, who was Barney’s 1^st XI captain last year, will begin the next stage of her career in America, as a member of the Canisius University Women’s Soccer team after securing a scholarship at the institution based in Buffalo, New York.

Furthermore, last season’s 1^st XV Rugby captain, Jacob O, who led the School to the final of the National Schools Plate this year, has secured a contract with professional side Newcastle Falcons as part of the club’s Senior Academy.

The School organised a special lunch event for students and their families this afternoon as their Barney journeys officially drew to a close.

Tony Jackson, Headmaster of Barnard Castle School, said: “I am incredibly proud of our students who have shown exceptional resilience these last few years, none more so than over this year as they sat formal examinations and assessments for the first time in their lives.

“Each and every student has shown great character and perseverance throughout their time at Barney, fully immersing themselves in School life regardless of the unprecedented challenges faced. Their academic achievements, combined with the values and soft skills that Barnardians learn both within and beyond the classroom, ensure they are equipped to thrive and lead in an ever-changing world.”

Mr Jackson added: “I would like to wish our latest cohort of leavers every success in the future, as they prepare to enter the next stage of their lives and forge exciting and rewarding career paths.”
