Exercise Black Rat Cadet Challenge – 15-16 October 2022

18 Oct 2022

Many congratulations to members of Barney’s CCF who performed exceptionally well at the weekend, as they represented the contingent at the annual Exercise Black Rat Cadet Challenge against 14 other teams.

It was a clean sweep for our cadets, who were crowned Black Rat Cadet Challenge Champions, Best Military Skills Team, winners of the CCF Gun Run Challenge and were the overall CCF/ACF Team Winners of the Gun Run Challenge!

The two-day event tested the cadets on their military knowledge, first aid skills, weapon handling, combat drills, endurance and self-sufficiency.

On the final morning, stamina, strength, speed and teamwork came into play during the infamous gun run challenge. Teams raced against one another in heats to assemble, disassemble and change wheels on the gun carriage, unlock the ammunition box, allowing the cannon to be fired, before charging back to the finish line with all their equipment.

Points were awarded for every element of the weekend, including on the spot kit inspections to how well they performed at each task and scenario they were faced with.

A huge thank you must go to Mr Wardman and sergeant Pennock who have dedicated time training the team throughout this term.
