Headspace Speaker Programme – Mike Hurst

05 Oct 2022

During today’s Headspace lecture, Senior School students were treated to an entertaining and insightful talk about the history of music, delivered by one of the UK’s longstanding and successful musicians and producers.

Mike Hurst took students back in time with renditions of songs composed throughout history, exploring the different genres of music, from jazz and punk all the way through to disco and rap, while discussing his own experiences in the industry, spanning back to the 1960s.

The eccentric 80-year-old spoke about his tenure with The Springfields and his time as producer, specifically being responsible for discovering Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, Cat Stevens.

He closed his enthralling lecture performing a classic Buddy Holly song, one of his favourite musicians of all time, before a Q&A session with students.

We are grateful to Mike for visiting and delivering such passionate talks to our students, many of whom are keen, talented musicians and will undoubtedly take a lot away from today’s invaluable experience.
