Entrepreneurialism – OB Laura Mason
19.03.2021
This afternoon, it was nice to welcome OB Laura Mason to our Sixth Form Centre, albeit virtually, for a chat with our Sixth Formers.
Laura, who left Barney in 2006 and was a member of Bowes House, spoke about her incredible and varied career to date, while emphasising the importance of developing a growth mindset and looking after yourself.
Following the completion of her A Levels at Barney, she travelled to Kenya where she taught children and supported many orphanages before studying at university.
After graduating from Leeds Metropolitan University with a degree in International Business, Laura spent time in India where she worked at a centre for trafficked women and children, as she continued her passion of ‘wanting to help people.’
Since then, she went on to become an Area Manager at Lidl and headed up its HR provision in North London.
Laura then moved back to the North East in a new position at Entrepreneurial Spark, which was later bought by NatWest. The company works with entrepreneurs and supports their growth ambitions, and Laura is currently spearheading its strategy for purpose across the bank.
Many thanks for your time, Laura; it was a fascinating discussion with our students, who took a lot away from it.
We hope to be able to welcome you back to Barney in the not too distant future.
