Barnard Castle Prep School awarded prestigious Wellbeing Award!

24 Jun 2024

As Barney recognises World Wellbeing Week (24-28 June), we are delighted to share that Prep School has been awarded the prestigious Wellbeing Award for Schools!

Not only that, but we are the ONLY independent school in our region to achieve the accreditation, which is excellent news and a credit to the dedicated staff members we are fortunate to have.

The Wellbeing Award for Schools, developed by the National Children’s Bureau and Optimus Education, recognises the outstanding work being done to promote mental health and wellbeing within school communities across England.

Over the last year, we have launched a bespoke Wellbeing Room at the Prep School, affording a space for Preppies to unwind and spend time in a peaceful setting, while also championing important initiatives, such as Prep School Wellbeing Week – all of which complement Barney’s ‘Excellent-rated’ pastoral provision.

Commenting on the award success, Mrs Taylor, Prep School Deputy Head (Pastoral), said: “This prestigious accreditation is validation of our continued commitment to supporting pupils’ wellbeing, and we are delighted to be the first independent school recipient in the North East region.

“Barney is fortunate to have such a caring and nurturing staff body, who continually go above and beyond for pupils – both inside and outside of the classroom – which was praised by the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) during our most recent inspection.

“As ever, we will continue to improve and enhance our Barney Education offering at every opportunity, building on this latest success for which everyone affiliated with Prep School should be proud.”
