Prestigious awards for Mr Fairwood and Mrs Connor!

24 Apr 2023

We are delighted to share the incredible news that Captain Fairwood and Lieutenant Colonel Connor have each been awarded the prestigious Cadet Forces Medal in recognition of their service to the Combined Cadet Force (CCF)!

Capt Fairwood has now completed 12 years’ service, while Lt Col Connor has served 20 years, as Cadet Force Adult Volunteers.

These are uniformed civilian staff who work in school contingents and provide training to cadets. There are currently 3,370 adult volunteers within the CCF nationwide, and we are lucky enough to have nine of them at our School. They help to lead, guide and inspire cadets as they teach them drill and turnout, leadership, teamwork, weapon training, first aid, navigation and field craft on a weekly basis during service time on a Monday.

The Cadet Forces Medal is awarded to recognise long and efficient service by these individuals. The medal is awarded for 12 years’ service and supplementary medal first clasps are awarded for every eight years of additional service to this.

We are grateful for all our Cadet Force Adult Volunteers’ continued hard work and dedication to Barney’s cadets and thriving contingent, and congratulations once again to Capt Fairwood and Lt Col Connor.
